Kyoto is a city impossibly juxtaposed between the modern world and something far more ancient.
Tradition imbues Kyoto in all aspects from Japanese inns (called ryokans) to ceremonial tea houses to the impeccably refined kaiseki meals. Yet, craft beer, hand poured coffee, and idyllically curated stores dot neighborhoods.
Walking through Kyoto feels like a Japanese woodblock print come to life. With over 1,000 Buddhist temples and Shinto shrines, it’s impossible not to feel inspired by the gardens and buildings that seem built into the natural world.
